Create a 6-8 slide Power Point presentation that describes communication barriers within an interdisciplinary team and how those barriers affect patient safety and health care outcomes, Offer a solutions in which you recommend evidence-based strategies to improve communication within the team and explain how the strategies benefit the team and patients.

Communication barriers that can cause a negative impact on the achievement goals are (DeLisa, Gans, and Walsh, 2005):

  • Personal characteristics of individual members that may lead to personality conflicts
  • Role ambiguity
  • Incongruent expectations
  • Different perceptions of authority
  • Power and status differentials
  • Differences in the educational qualification of the patient care team memebrs
  • Hidden agendas.
  • Explain how communication barriers between members of an interdisciplinary team can affect patient safety and health care outcomes, providing real world examples that demonstrate in-depth understanding.
  • Recommend evidence-based strategies to improve communication within an interdisciplinary team and suggest ways to effectively implement the strategies.
  • One of the strategy of overcoming communication barriers in a team is to avoid group thinking.

Leaders should work to avoid the likelihood of groupthink. Groupthink occurs when the team maintains pleasant atmosphere at the expense of making good decisions. Consequently, there is reduced willingness to challenge or agree with the views of others (Kelly, ).
