Impact of Beauty Standards on Women’s Mental and Psychical Health

How beauty standards can affect women’s mental and psychical health

Instructions

Go back to your research topic that you presented in your presentation.

Research and find (6) sources (see below) related to, that inform or provide context to, or about your topic.

Make sure to select a few sources that you may want to read to their entirety.

Think about if you are examining a particular population, gender, subgroup, culture, environment, particular concepts, etc… All of these can be potential sources.

In the Discussion Board, write a sentence explaining your topic and what you want to examine. Below, cut/paste a correctly formatted reference list using APA style

The sources should include the following:

A. (3) Journal Articles; at least two need to examine something from a communication perspective (perception, identity, performance, nonverbal, culture, behavior, stigma, etc…)

B. (1) website

C. (1) online periodical

D. (1) Youtube video

Topic is- How beauty standards can affect women’s mental and psychical health.

Language Development in Children

Language Development in Children

Requirement: A 1500 WORD MINIMUM TERM PAPER: A term paper of no less than 1500
words (you can have as many over that amount as you wish). This will be written on a Topic that
you should select from a list of Language Development Hypotheses listed at the end of this
paragraph. The Term Paper is to present a discussion based on a minimum of three articles,
books or chapters in a book (excluding the class Text, of course), that describe, or support or
refute the hypothesis you have selected from the list. A minimum of three citations (you can have
as many above that number as you wish) with references in APA format will be included at the
end of the paper. An example of APA format is also provided in the Oviatt Library
(http://libguides.csun.edu/research-strategies/APALinks to an external site.). Please note,
however, that only the references need be in APA and not the whole paper.

Also, at the end of the paper you should include a short Appendix, which will answer three
questions: 1. What were the databases, if any, that you used to find each article or book; 2. What
was the search strategy you used (i.e., the search words you used) in each database to find the
articles; and 3. Was each article that you cited an example of Primary or Secondary research?
The Term Paper should be submitted as an assignment BUT also as a back-up measure emailed
to the instructor as an attachment and as text copied and pasted directly into the email message
itself.
Information Competency Exercise: Language Development Hypotheses (TOPICS) List to select
from for the Student Research for the Term Paper and also the Annotated Bibliography.
1. The effects of watching television for young children are detrimental to language development.
(This is my chosen topic)
[[[ ***My note: 1500 words for this is fine because for the last page after Appendix I need an
Annotated Bibliography and you may use the rest of the words on this page or your way but at
least 100 words per bibliography*** ]]]

[[[ ***My note: FOR THE Annotated Bibliography instructions*** ]]]
Requirement: An Annotated Bibliography will be developed including Five (100 word minimum
for each) Annotated Citations. With the exception of the first, these references will be based on
topics obtained from the Language Development Hypotheses in the list provided at the end of
this Section in BLUE. You may use the same Topic for all, or different Topics for each. The choice
is yours.
The First annotated citation will be on the Topic of the “Legal and Ethical Dimensions of the Use
of Information.” This information can be obtained from the Internet using a search engine such
as ONE SEARCH on the Oviatt Library Home page. The annotated citation should be in APA
format as much as possible, and should include the URL (address) of the Internet site; or a
citation of the book or article if that was used. The annotation should provide a short overview of
the article and/or list the most critical points. Please note that this one citation can relate to any
topic and not only Language Development.
The second two of these citations will be full Text articles or books obtained through Databases
of professional books and journals available at, or online through the CSUN Library. I
recommend using ONE SEARCH on the Oviatt Library webpage. These citations will be reported
in a APA format as much as possible. Included in the annotation portion of each citation will be a
paragraph, which briefly (like in a few sentences) summarizes the article (you can usually get this
information from the abstract), and answers to the following questions. If the answer is not
available, you simply state that fact:

1. What is the background (authority) of the author (viz., degree and type of education, affiliated
institution, history of research in the area as perhaps reflected by past articles in the
bibliography)?
2. Who is the intended audience (i.e., professionals, laypersons, women etc.)?
3. How does this work compare or contrast with others you may have cited or be aware of? If you
are not aware of any others, simply state that as the situation.
4. What is the scope and relevance of this work to the selected topic (hypothesis)? What the
heck do I mean by that? Well, is it highly or only vaguely relevant to the hypothesis; and is it of
minor or major importance.
The Last Two citations will be obtained through the Internet using any search engines but as
before, ONE SEARCH on the Oviatt Library Home Page should do just fine. These citations will
follow an APA format as closely as possible, including the URL information. Included in each
citation will be a paragraph, which briefly summarizes the site, and addresses the following
questions related to, for the purpose of this exercise, the voracity of the Website. If the answers
are not available in the site information, which may often be the case, simply state so and move
on:
1. Is the site owner/manager’s identity available and is it associated with a reputable
organization, company or educational institution?
2. What is the backgroun

d (authority) of the author (viz., degree and type of education, affiliated
institution, history of research in the area as perhaps reflected by past articles in the site
bibliography. If this information is not available, simply state that fact.)

3. What is the level of objectivity? For example, are there advertisements on the site related in
anyway to the topic?
4. Is the Website current? Cues to the contrary, for example, include broken or expired links
and/or no posting date or updated notations.
5. Is the information correct; error free, verifiable, and/or backed by full citations?
[[[ ***My note: Please use the same topic above. We also have a textbook so let me know if you
need it. I will take pictures because its on kindle***

Child Observation Project

Child Observation Project

CHILD OBSERVATION PROJECT (30%)
The final project is your opportunity to demonstrate a sophisticated understanding and
integration of concepts covered during the semester.
Observation of child (ages birth-12yrs), write-up & analysis.
The child can be a family member, friend, or relative. Please, explain the purpose of the
observation to the child’s caretaker beforehand and obtain permission before beginning your
observations.
One of several alternatives:
-You can watch “Home Alone” <<<<<< (watch home alone and observe that child)

It is recommended that you observe the child for a minimum of 45 minutes. If possible, observe
the child interacting w/other children, friends or family members, as this will be more informative.
You can speak with the child’s caregiver to gather demographic information (age, ethnicity, SES
status, education level of parents, # of siblings, if the child attends school, parent occupation,
etc.), and additional information on the child’s functioning.
Based on your observations, you will analyze the child’s cognitive, social and emotional
development, using three theories discussed in class (lecture or text).
You will then write up your observations and analysis (4-5 pages, double spaced, 12-point font).
It is recommended that you use ½ page for basic demographic information, and 1-1 ½ page for
each of the three theory-based analyses. Make sure to briefly describe each theory (one-two
paragraph) before launching into your analysis. Also remember to support your analysis with
specific observations.
WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT GUIDELINES
Assignments must be TYPED, 12-point font, DOUBLE SPACED.
Late assignments will be accepted at the discretion of the professor and points will be deducted if
accepted.
Please spell check and proofread your assignments before submitting them.
All written assignments are graded according to the following rubric:

Depression Among Young Adults in Prison in the UK

Depression Among Young Adults in Prison in the UK

Size or length of assessment 2000-2500 wordsAs you are given a word count range, the 10% over or under the word count rule DOES NOT apply.

Note that reference lists, appendices, contents page and title page do not count in the word limit.

Unit learning outcomes 1. Demonstrate the following knowledge and understandingof the main theoretical approaches to understanding the nature, prevalence and impact of mental illness.

2.  Demonstrate the following skills and abilities

Critically analyse the evidence for how the experience of, and interventions for, a specific mental illness impact on those who are affected by it.

What am I required to do in this assignment?
The assignment will take the form of a 2000-2500 word report, which identifies a specific mental health issue, or condition, and presents a comprehensive account of how this affects a chosen social group in the UK. The report contents must also include a critical account of services and support mechanisms involved in the process of supporting the recovery of individuals by meeting their diverse needs.  To ensure early engagement with the task, you will need to submit your full reference list and report topic in week 8 (Monday 20th April , by 10 am). The reference list must contain a range of sources you aim to use including both qualitative and quantitative research papers related to your chosen topic that you will use in the final report. There will be no grade associated with this element but it is a compulsorily element of the task and the report will not be graded if this element is not completed.

You will be expected to use a range of quantitative data to establish the prevalence of your chosen condition in the UK – here you would give statistics related to areas such as how many of your chosen social group have your chosen mental health problem in the UK.

You must also use qualitative data to describe the lives of those affected by your chosen illness or disorder and how they view treatment and support services. For the qualitative data, you should draw on primary research studies where service users and/or families/carers speak about their experiences i.e. you must use primary research studies that give ‘voice’ to your chosen social group. These are studies that look at what your social group have to say life is like for them living with the mental health problem and the impact the mental illness has on them and their life as well as what they say about the support/mental health services they receive in the UK.

Finally, you must critically evaluate the services/support received by your chosen group. You need to say whether or not, based on the evidence, these mental health services/support in the UK are working to assist/help your chosen and whether all with your chosen condition have equal access to services. Here you can also draw on studies where those with mental illnesses speak about the support they receive and whether it is enough/meets their needs.

The final report must include a full reference list of texts and sources cited in the main body. All referencing in the text and reference list must follow the Harvard style, as specified in the Faculty’s Harvard referencing guidelines, which you will find on the Unit’s BREO site under the ‘Assessment’ section.   Please remember you only ever list primary sources in your reference list – Please look up secondary referencing in the Faculty’s Harvard referencing guidelines.

To pass the assignment, there is an expectation that you will draw on a range of both academic sources including peer-reviewed primary research papers, academic books and academic journal articles and other appropriate sources.

Proofread and edit your work before handing it in.

The report format should be as follows:

1.      Title page (you must provide your own title)

2.      Abstract or Executive Summary (on a separate page)

3.      Table of contents (which includes page numbers for the different sections/subsections and should be on a new page)

4.      Introduction

5.      Discussion of findings (should consist of different headed sections/subsections; subheading titles should also appear in your table of contents)

6.      Conclusion

7.      References

8.      Appendix/Appendices. Appendices should be given titles and these should be included in your Table of Contents. (Note you do not have to use appendices.)

You are reminded that plagiarism of any type will be penalised and result in a fail.

What do I need to do to pass? (Threshold Expectations from UIF)
In order to pass the assessment, you will need to:•        Provide evidence of understanding of the diversity of mental health service users, and demonstrate the ability to interpret evidence, and to recognise the occasional ambiguity of evidence.

•        Identify and critically evaluate policies, treatments and services that diagnose, treat and support people living with mental illness.

•        Explore the validity of prevailing approaches and the ways in which patients and service users respond to them.

•        Utilise a range of mixed methods to establish patterns and to understand experiences of those affected by your chosen illness or disorder.

How do I produce high quality work that merits a good grade?
Carry out wider reading of peer-reviewed journals drawing on appropriate UK based qualitative and quantitative studies and adopt an appropriate critical approach to your analysis and evaluation of mental health services, treatment and support in the UK, considering the diverse needs of different groups/individuals. Reference accurately and systematically throughout your work using the correct Harvard format. Write in clear, accurate and succinct academic English.
How does this assignment relate to what we are doing in scheduled sessions?
It links to the issues discussed in the weekly lectures and helps you develop an in-depth understanding of how the needs of mental health service users are met in the UK from the service users’ perspective.

Psychiatric Nursing Anxiety Case Study – Vignette

Psychiatric Nursing Anxiety Case Study – Vignette

Case Study

Neela has split up with her boyfriend of four years. “Nick was abusive, but now he’s in jail, so it’s been easy this year to make some changes,” she says. She is confident that she will never go back to him, but says she’s left with “some residue—like nightmares, hyperalertness, a little too much drinking, and the blues.” She says she has always been a light social drinker and denies a history of alcoholism, although she struggles with alcohol now. She also reports that she sleeps “too light”; she can’t get to sleep, and then when she does, she’s hypervigilant, sitting up and thinking that she hears him coming into her apartment every time she drifts off. She wakes up in such moments in a cold sweat with her heart pounding in her temples, she hyperventilates and everything feels unreal, “like I’m in some creepy slasher film on late-night TV. I’m always so glad when the sun comes up!”

The alcohol “takes the edge off” her nerves and “helps with the depression.” Asked if she is sad most of the time, she says, “No. I really am over him, but I’m still scared. I get collect calls from him in prison, but I never accept them. I think if I could just get a different job, a different apartment, in a different city, I’d be fine. I could start all over again. I’ve sent out résumés, but until something comes up, I’m sort of stuck here in limbo where he knows he can find me. Ultimately, then, I’m here to treat this depression. I’m depressed, right?”.
1. Explain to Neela at least three differences between depression and anxiety—choosing three that apply in particular to her case.

2. List your top two short-term goals and interventions you would recommend for Neela.

Psychiatric Nursing Crisis Case Study – Vignette

Psychiatric Nursing Crisis Case Study – Vignette

Case Study

Elle, 39, has come in for treatment for severe panic attacks. Her daughter, Savannah, is leaving for college for the first time and is planning on driving up with a friend who will attend the same college. Savannah does not want her mother to go along. Elle says, “I have nightmares about them crashing somewhere and nobody knowing where they are.” She says she and Savannah have had arguments about this. Elle reports that the panic attacks began “about two weeks ago when Savannah and her dad both agreed that it was okay for her to drive up to the college with Jason.” Elle says that her worries are “not about sex. Jason is her best friend, but they’ve never dated, and in fact, Jason has a girlfriend. I admit the college is not far away, so it won’t be an overnight trip, but I don’t want Savannah to drive up with Jason. A three-hour drive. I want to do it.”

During assessment, you learn that 2 years ago, Savannah and her twin, Sophia, were in an after-prom car accident, in which teens in a car were driving to the next town over to go to the beach. Savannah’s twin was killed. Savannah was in the hospital for months and needed physical therapy for 18 months. As she describes the accident, Elle points out that the driver, Sophia’s date, escaped serious injury. “Funny, isn’t it?” she says. “The drunk driver always escapes injury while he hurts everyone around him.”

Savannah has pointed out that “Jason doesn’t drink. You know this. You’ve known him all his life. You’ve always liked him, even when I get annoyed with him.” Elle admits this, but still says, “I don’t want that boy driving her up there. It’s a long way.” Savannah complains that every time the subject comes up, Elle has a panic attack. Elle tells you privately, and sincerely, “I don’t mean to have these panic attacks. And I don’t want them. This just isn’t me.”

  1. Elle admits Jason doesn’t drink; he isn’t sexually involved with Savannah, and she has known him all his life, and that she’s always liked him. Yet she refers to him now as “that boy.” (1) Her fears aside, what emotional response to this new crisis for Elle is she displaying, particularly toward Jason? Do you think this emotion is directed just at Jason or at someone else as well? (2) What does this tell you about her current perception of this crisis?
  2. Now that you have a clearer vision of Elle’s perception of the crisis, what further aspects of Elle’s current status should you assess?
  3. While finishing your assessment, you learn that Elle has two very close friends, and a pretty solid marriage. Her husband has avoided the arguments between Savannah and Elle, declaring that “Savannah is a grown-up now, and capable of making such a small choice as who will drive her to school, on her own.” He refuses to get involved, and while he is sympathetic and affectionate during and after Elle’s panic attacks, he says they scare him a little. He wonders if there isn’t medication to control these.
You also learn that her best friend is her sister, who lives in town. This sister moved in with Elle right after Sophia’s death and was a “great comfort” during the early stages of grief and also came to the hospital almost every day to sit with Elle and Savannah during those first rough months. Elle’s sister has proposed that they have a “girl time” with Savannah the night before she leaves for college, but Elle has said, “I can’t think about that right now.”
You have not quite decided which level of crisis intervention to use just yet, but how could you apply strategies from the first three levels of crisis intervention—environmental manipulation, general support, and generic approach—in tackling Elle’s current situation?

How could you apply strategies from the fourth level of crisis intervention—i.e., the individual approach—in tackling Elle’s current situation?
